NavSim has the (not so) modest goal of – one day – becoming the number-one, most indispensable, feature-rich, sought-after, must-have Flight-Simulator add-on ever.
To eventually achieve this (admittedly, far-fetched) goal, it already offers a range of features that include assisting the virtual pilot with – in no particular order – situational awareness, flight planning, navigation, ATC network monitoring, flight execution, and real-time flight progress monitoring.
Functionally, NavSim is a combination of several different Flight Simulator add-ons rolled into one:
Moving Map Rotate the globe, zoom-in or out. Depicts major bodies of water, coastlines, and country borders using detailed and accurate vector data (over 800,000 points) derived from the CIA Worldbook. Visually measure distances and bearings. Easily jump to Google Maps.
Navigational Database View and manage the details of airports, navaids, airways, navigational fixes, and flight information regions (FIRs). Import latest nav-data (AIRAC) updates. Depicts airports, navaids, airways, FIRs, and navigational fixes superimposed on the map.
Network Monitor Obtain and depict statistics about ATC networks (VATSIM, IVAO). View current position and flight details of other pilots connected to a particular ATC network. View the status of ATC facilities, including their radar coverage.
Flight Planner Create or import flight plans. Export flight plans to the simulator. Monitor the execution of a flight plan. Print a flight plan. Manage entire “tours”, i.e. collections of flight plans.
Real-time Flight Monitor Connect to the simulator and monitor the current position in real-time while – optionally – recording the flight track. Displays flight progress information, including current position, speed, altitude, fuel remaining, fuel time remaining, distance to destination, and many more. Create and manage alerts related to the current flight.
